In his earlier teaching, Jesus has already redefined both the “enemies” and their “subjugation.” The real enemy of God’s kingdom is not Rome, but the powers of evil that stand behind all opposition to God’s rule.2 Subjugation will come about not by military force but by the loving power of the gospel.
